Snow Chrysanthemum (Xue Ju) and Black Goji Tea
Traditionally used to support detoxification, skin radiance and healthy ageing
Why people make this tea
A friend gave Bro Niu a bag of fragrant Kunlun snow chrysanthemum, prized as a fine wellness flower tea. Spotting black goji at the herb shop — said to carry far more anthocyanins than blueberries — he paired the two. Together they make a fragrant cup traditionally enjoyed to support clear skin, ease tired eyes and promote graceful ageing.
Who it suits / who should be cautious
- Good for anyone wanting a light, antioxidant-rich daily flower tea, especially for tired eyes or skin that needs brightening.
- Pleasant and gentle; as with any flower tea, those with a very cold constitution should not overdo it.
Why these ingredients (the food-therapy logic)
- Snow chrysanthemum (xue ju): traditionally used to clear the liver, brighten the eyes and moisten the bowels; rich in flavonoids with antioxidant activity.
- Black goji (hei gou qi zi): prized for its anthocyanins; associated with supporting the eyes and helping the body resist signs of ageing.

Bro Niu’s tips
This tea is fragrant and pleasant. The flavonoids in snow chrysanthemum have a strong antioxidant action that helps counter cell ageing, and the tea is also traditionally taken to support the body against colds and to look after the heart and blood vessels.

- Q (Ming): I’ve a lingering cough after a cold, dry mouth, a few heat spots, but I feel cold and cough more at night — anything to soothe it? Bro Niu: Try 3 qian perilla leaf, 3 slices ginger and a little brown sugar boiled in 3.5 bowls of water for 15 minutes to 2 bowls, split over a day. For the dry mouth and heat spots, simmer 2 qian American ginseng, 1 old cucumber, 1 liang each of red beans and lentils and 3 honey dates with pork ribs for 2 hours — good for lingering heat after a cold.
- Q (Ming): Can I drink ching bo leung (qing bu liang) soup? Bro Niu: If there’s no fever, ching bo leung soup is fine.
